Laptop hard drive failure

Sometime between leaving work last night and arriving at work this morning, my laptop ceased to work. A hard disk check in the BIOS proved what I had feared - the drive was broken.

A couple of good points - firstly, it's still under warranty, even though I bought it second hand, and HP are going to send me a new drive. Secondly, I have a pretty good backup system, so I shouldn't have lost anything too important. When I finish coding something, I check it into subversion, and ftp the whole subversion database onto a web server.

Here's a gentle reminder for you, should you need one, to sort out your own backup system. If you lost your hard drive, would your digital life be recoverable?

Sorry to hear about your laptop's harddrive.

Will I see you at DDD this year? I'm really looking forward to it. Made sure to keep my calendar free even when work threatened to eat that weekend. :)

I'm booked in, and it would take a lot to keep me away. I've been to all of them so far.

Look forward to seeing you there. I haven't seen you since, ooh, was it last year's VBUG? My my.

Been downright slack on attending the geek events this year. :) Middle year DDD always seems to clash with my yearly holiday to Australia.

I was very envious reading about what a good time you had at hack day though. :)
